沈树忠,1961年10月出生于浙江湖州,1981年毕业于浙江煤炭工业学校(浙江工商大学前身之一),地层古生物学家,中国科学院院士,南京大学地球科学与工程学院教授、博士生导师,南京大学生物演化与环境科教融合中心主任。现任《国际地层委员会》副主席和《Palaeogeography,Palaeoclimatology,Palaeoecology》共同主编。

沈树忠主要从事二叠纪腕足动物门、牙形石化石系统古生物学、生物大灭绝及其以后的复苏、定量生物古地理学、生物多样性和古环境学等方面的研究。他在Science、ScienceAdvances、EPSL、地质学等国际知名刊物上发表论380余篇(部),其中主编或撰写论文集和专著20部。他还曾获国家自然科学二等奖和省科技进步一等奖各1项、国家六部委颁发的优秀回国人员成就奖、江苏省高层次人才突出贡献奖、李四光地质科学奖等、江苏省先进工作者等。
人物经历
1961年10月,沈树忠出生于浙江省湖州市湖州塘甸一个普通的农民家庭。
1975年,沈树忠考入了浙江省湖州中学,当时的环境并不是单纯地读书,学生经常要学工、学军、学农,沈树忠所在的高二(5)班是农村班,经常要去劳动。
1977年,沈树忠毕业于浙江省湖州中学。
1981年,沈树忠从浙江煤炭工业学校(现浙江工商大学)毕业,毕业后被分配到离家乡较近的浙江长广煤炭公司,成了一名地质技术员。
1983年,当了两年煤矿地质技术员的沈树忠被他的导师,中国矿业大学的何锡麟教授破格录取为赴澳大利亚留学研究生。
1986年,沈树忠从中国矿业大学毕业,获得硕士学位。
1989年,沈树忠从中国矿业大学毕业,获得博士学位,之后留校任教,先后担任讲师、副教授。
1994年春,沈树忠接受西藏自治区考察任务,从南京赶去与希夏邦马峰国际科考队汇合。此后,他的科研轨迹发生改变,先后五次前往西藏进行野外地质研究。
1995年,沈树忠初次出国,被派往俄罗斯古生物研究所学习。
1996年至2000年,沈树忠先后到日本新泻大学理学部和澳大利Deakin大学生态与环境学院从事博士后学习和研究,并取得了优异的成绩。
2000年底,沈树忠入选中国科学院百人计划,从澳大利亚引进到中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所工作。
2002年,沈树忠获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助。
2003年,沈树忠入选江苏省333新世纪科学技术带头人(第3层次)。同年,沈树忠获得优秀回国人员成就奖。
2004年,沈树忠入选新世纪百千万人才工程国家级人选。同年,他主持基金委优秀创新群体(至2012年),并获得优秀。
2006年,沈树忠担任科技部973项目首席科学家(至2010年)。同年,他担任现代古生物学和地层学国家重点实验室主任(至2015年),期间领导实验室在地球科学领域国家重点实验室评估中两次(2010,2015)获得优秀。
2012年,沈树忠入选江苏省333新世纪科学技术带头人(第一层次)。
2012年至2020年,沈树忠任国际二叠纪地层分会主席。
2015年7月,沈树忠入选中国科学院院士增选初步候选人名单。12月,增选为中国科学院院士。
2017年,沈树忠担任南京大学生物演化与环境科教融合中心主任。
2018年11月,沈树忠全职加入南京大学,担任南京大学地球科学与工程学院教授、博士生导师。

科研成就
科研综述
1994年以来,沈树忠多次进入西藏自治区进行大量野外工作,建立以藏南为代表的冈瓦纳北缘二叠-三叠纪之交连续的生物、地化和岩石地层序列,改变了该区缺失中、上二叠统的传统认识。通过藏南与雅鲁藏布江缝合带的动物群的比较,提出雅鲁藏布江缝合带外来体和拉萨市地块二叠纪地层和动物群与冈瓦纳大陆北缘有本质区别,新特提斯洋在中二叠世业已形成等观点,对认识古特提斯洋的古地理演化有重要意义。
在系统古生物研究方面,沈树忠深入研究了十多个国家的腕足动物门和牙形石动物群。带领团队建立石炭纪-三叠纪全球腕足动物数据库,创建全球生物古地理和多样性演变模式,使其成为判断该时段地体古地理位置和古海道开闭时间以及海洋底栖生态系统演变依据,提出前乐平世事件与当时全球大海退造成的大规模栖息地减少相关等新认识。
在二叠纪大灭绝事件研究中,沈树忠与团队成员和国际同行一起共同开展高精度综合年代地层框架、生物多样性定量分析和多种地化指标等研究,论证二叠纪末海陆生物大灭绝的同时性和瞬时性,指出大规模岩浆活动造成地表环境的巨变是导致该生物大灭绝的主因。相关成果在Science、PNAS、EPSL等刊物发表后,引起中国国内外同行的关注。发表在Science上的成果入选《2012年度中国科学十大进展》,相关内容被编入美国大学教材等。
2006年起,沈树忠领导国际乐平统工作组,与国际同行进行合作,开展多门类生物地层、化学地层和高精度测年等综合交叉合作研究,使二叠系-三叠系之交的综合年代地层框架精度得到提高。
南京大学教授樊隽轩,中国科学院院士、南京大学教授沈树忠等在《科学》杂志发表了题为《寒武纪至早三叠世高分辨率海洋生物多样性演化》的论文。该研究利用古生物大数据、超算和遗传算法等全新的方法和手段,基于化石记录重现了生命演化历史,改变了当前对古生代海洋生物多样性演化的认知。
2022年5月,以中国科学院院士沈树忠为首的科研团队完成的二叠系瓜达鲁普统卡匹敦阶(Capitanian)底界全球标准层型剖面和点位(俗称“金钉子”)研究成果,在国际地质科学联合会的官方刊物Episodes在线发表。
2024年12月,南京大学地球科学与工程学院研究员唐卿和中国科学院院士沈树忠等联合中外多家科研单位在顶级学术期刊《科学》(Science)上发表重要研究成果。该研究通过建立早期地球化石大数据,利用超算和人工智能等分析方法首次绘制地球距今20亿到5亿年前,间隔约15亿年的高精度生物多样性演化历史,揭示了地球上的早期生命是通过漫长的演化历程,填补了关于早期地球生物多样性宏演化的空白,为阐明早期地球生命起源和演化规律、探索地外生命是否存在以及宜居地球的可持续发展提供重要的理论基础和借鉴。

学术交流
沈树忠在华南、西藏、伊朗、美国等地开展大量生物地层学研究,多次联合组织重大生物事件等重要国际专题会议。作为大会共同主席组织召开了国际石炭-二叠纪地质大会(2007)、国际腕足动物大会(2015)等重要国际会议,并在AAAS年会(2013)等重要国际国内会议上应邀作特邀或主题报告等。
承担项目
截至2015年12月,沈树忠先后主持和参加了10余项国家中华人民共和国国家自然科学基金委员会、澳大利亚联邦基金委、科技部和原煤炭部的项目。

人才培养
2018年4月17日,沈树忠院士作为煤山小学校校外科技辅导员,为小学生们讲解了金钉子地质知识。
2018年4月25日,沈树忠在太原理工大学迎西校区科学楼2层报告厅作了题为《2.52亿年前的超级生物大灭绝》的学术报告。此外,他还介绍了中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所的情况和研究生培养机制,并欢迎太原理工大学的学子到南京地质古生物研究所继续深造。
2019年6月4日,沈树忠院士在南京大学地球科学与工程学院带领团队成立了生物演化与环境国际班,积极探索多学科交叉培养模式。他结合自己的科研经历,致力于打造国际化地球科学专业人才培养基地。国际班实行双导师制,学业导师和科研导师双向选择,以学年为单位,自由轮换,科研导师团队包括多位院士、杰青等。
2023年,南京大学地球生命演化与碳循环国际合作联合实验室获批立项建设,沈树忠院士担任中方主任。该联合实验室以南京大学多个重点实验室为依托平台,联合麻省理工学院、马里兰大学等国外相关领域优势高校平台共同组建,为人才培养提供了更广阔的国际平台。
2024年9月1日至10月10日,应沈树忠院士的邀请,澳大利亚卧龙冈大学地球、大气和生命科学学院院长石光荣教授来访南京大学,与师生开展了一系列深入的学术交流。双方确定将在2026年在澳大利亚东部地区开展本科生国际野外科考项目,以培养学生的国际视野和科研能力,支持国际化人才的培养计划。

个人生活
沈树忠父亲为普通工人,只有一点点文化,母亲务农,一字不识,自小家境贫寒,兄长和两个姐姐都仅仅小学毕业。但父母亲看到他自小就爱学习,都很重视,在得知湖州中学招收两个“农村班”后,通过村里选拔把他送到湖州中学学习。
1982 年,沈树忠去长兴采石厂时遇到了他的妻子,他曾在 中央电视台综合频道《开讲啦》栏目中分享过自己妻子在长兴煤山剖面的照片。2002年,当沈树忠第5次到达西藏时,发生了意外,当他的重感冒遭遇了西藏的恶劣天气条件,他的身体出现了严重不适,最后只能靠简陋的制氧机帮助呼吸,在同事的护送下驱车14小时回到拉萨才脱离危险。

沈树忠在二叠纪地层学、二叠纪末生物大灭绝与环境变化、腕足动物古生物学等方面取得了系统性和创新性成果。他热爱地层古生物事业,勤奋踏实,学风端正,肯为集体出力,有较强的组织和综合研究能力。(中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所评)
